About Carrollton Texas
Carrollton is a city in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, and is known as a lively residential and corporate community. Due to its location, it attracts business like anything – to date, more than 5,000 businesses are based in Carrollton, strengthening and diversifying its economy. The major industries in the city are manufacturing, construction trades, wholesale trades, finance, insurance, and real estate. All these industries point to a still-growing economy that’s geared to serve the City’s own residents.
History of Carrollton, TX
The area was first settled in a Peters Colony Grant in 1842. Early on, the area was almost exclusively agricultural. However, when the railroad came in, the community started to develop other industries.
In 1913, Carrollton was incorporated and its name is believed to be taken from where the majority of the settlers came from, which is Carrollton, Illinois.
The gravel industry developed the city even further in the first half of the 1900s, and by 1980, the city received another big boom when people from Dallas started looking for nearby places to live.
Carrollton Voted “Best Place to Live”
Carrollton’s development was properly channeled, such that in 2006 and 2008, the city received accolades from Money Magazine for being one of the best places to live in the US among the smaller cities.
Parks and Recreation
The city has one of the largest aggregated parkland area per capita ratios in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, and this translates to facilities such as picnic areas, playing fields, recreation centers, swimming facilities, a senior center, and hiking and biking trails. There’s even an amphitheater for public performances.
Indian Creek Golf Club
One of the top municipal golf courses in Texas, the Indian Creek Golf Club also has an equipment-and-accessories shop, a full-service bar and grill, and a fully-equipped pavilion that can fit up to 200 people comfortably.
A.W. Perry Homestead Museum
This homestead was one owned by DeWitt C. Perry, son of the founder A.W. Perry. The building materials were salvaged from the Perry family’s second home, the museum houses a collection of authentic period furniture and interiors.
Carrollton Town Square
The town square was created shortly before 1900, as commercial buildings went up in the first downtown area of Carrollton. The Square itself still stands, and is now a meeting point for town gatherings and events. Not surprisingly, the Square is still active as retail and dining area.
