What does our sod installation process look like?

When you sign up for our sod installation service, our team will follow a thorough, step-by-step process to ensure we install it correctly and set it up for long-standing success. Here’s how we do that:

• Remove all the grass and weeds from the area where we’ll place the sod to give us a clean slate.
• Take the site down to the soil to make it easier for the new sod to establish roots.
• Bring in new soil to create a flat, even surface for the sod.
• Place the sod, carefully lining up each piece so that they fit together perfectly.
• Roll out the sod to press it into the soil for good contact.
• Water your new lawn heavily to help it start the process of developing roots.

A Starter Fertilizer Is Applied to Encourage Root Development for Your Sod

While our sod installation process ensures it has the best chance of success, we take it a step further by applying a starter fertilizer. This fertilizer contains nutrients that will encourage your sod to quickly develop deep, healthy roots and establish in the soil. That way, your new sod has everything it needs to establish itself on your property and grow into a beautiful, lush lawn.

Instructions on how to care for your newly installed sod will be provided.

After installing your sod, we’ll provide instructions on how to care for it afterward. Your new lawn will need proper upkeep especially right after installation to ensure it successfully develops strong roots on your property. While we’ll handle everything else, you’ll want to follow these guidelines so that it establishes successfully in your soil. Here are some general tips:

• Water your sod every day for the first 30 days. The general rule is to water lightly but frequently for the first two weeks. Then, adjust to deep but infrequent watering two weeks after the installation to encourage deep root development. After that, you can return to your usual watering schedule.
• Don’t mow your sod until it has had at least 30 days to establish. Then, only cut off a third of its height at a time.
• Wait to use your lawn until after the first month to give the roots time to develop and hold the sod in place.
