About Coppell Texas

The City of Coppell is an urban and suburban area that is mostly residential by nature. But even though it is relatively “sleepy” compared to its other neighboring cities, the transformation from a smaller town to an active city is nowhere near as amazing as it is in Coppell itself.

History of Coppell, TX

Coppell was first settled by the French and Germans, along with people from Peters Colony. Coppell, at that point, was called “Gibbs Station” after Barnett Gibbs, who later became one of the first Lieutenant Governors for Texas. The town was later renamed in 1892, after George Coppell, a man who was an investor and helped finish the last stages of the local railroad line. Some have said he was also an engineer, but there’s not enough evidence to back that claim up. Coppell was incorporated in 1955, for the next two decades was mostly a small farming village.

When the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport was opened in 1974, Coppell changed from an agricultural center to a rather large, upper-middle class suburban area. This development accelerated in the 1980s and ‘90s, and by the millennium, most of Coppell’s land was developed.

Aside from being a residential community, Coppell is also known for its warehousing industry and transportation nodes located at the South and West sides. Most of these city industries are linked to the DFW airport services, since the transportation centers are close to the airport, and the warehousing is for storage of airlifted cargo.

Education

Coppell’s educational system is excellent by national standards, and has a strong support for the arts, particularly in Music, TV, and Film. Many of the educational institutions in Coppell have received national recognition for their activities in the arts.

Main Street in Coppell

Main Street is a walk-accessible community that provides professional office cottages, luxury homes, restaurants, and retail shops. The architectural styling reflects Coppell’s agricultural roots, and includes designs reminiscent of a classic Texan Town square. All this is situated on two acres. The main idea behind it is to encapsulate a combination of Coppell’s past and its present, to show people a blended future where tradition, excellence and modernity all fit together.
